ポール’s iplayer-dl wrapped up in a modified Applescript to give a basic OSX GUI for those with a fear of the Terminal.
iPlayer Downloadr.app Beeb Downloader.app was hacked together by modifying the Webkitty Applescript from Joy of Scripting to call the excellent iplayer-dl Ruby shell script.
Tested on G3, G4, G5 and Intel Macs running 10.5+ (Leopard) & 10.4+ (Tiger) - also works on 10.6+ (Snow Leopard).
As with the iPlayer service, this will only work if you are in the UK and have paid your Licence Fee.
Copy and paste the iPlayer URL from your web browser into Beeb Downloader.app, click ‘Next…’.
You will be prompted for the folder you want to download to.
Click ‘Start Download…’.
There is no real-time progress indicator, leave the app running in the background and you will receive an alert when the file has finished downloading.
When new versions of iplayer-dl are released, Beeb Downloader.app will be updated asap. Find the updated zip file on the main page.
You can browse contents of the .app and play around with the source in Script Editor. If you know Applescript, your feedback and hints would be greatly appreciated.
This is my first Applescript, so it’s a little rough around the edges. Thanks to Paul and Martin for their work and the BBC for the ‘accessibility’ of the iPlayer service. — Rak.
